How Much Does a Small Business Website Cost in 2026?
A small business website in 2026 costs $0 upfront plus roughly $10–$50 a month on a builder, $1,500–$8,000 with a freelancer and $6,000–$35,000 or more with an agency, according to 2026 price guides. VITON13 builds one from $113 AI-assisted or $173 human-led. Domain, hosting and email are paid separately every year.

What does each route cost: builder, freelancer, studio or agency?
It is a range, because “a website” covers anything from a one-page builder site assembled over a weekend to a custom multilingual build. The market figures below come from 2026 price guides, most of them published by companies that sell one of these routes, so read them as published ranges, not audited averages.
| Route | Upfront | Ongoing | Who does the work | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DIY builder (Squarespace, GoDaddy) | $0 | Squarespace Basic $19/mo billed annually ($25 monthly); GoDaddy lists $9.99–$20.99+/mo | You | Squarespace pricing; GoDaddy, Feb 2026 |
| WordPress, self-built | $100–$300 setup; premium theme $0–$200 | Hosting $10–$50/mo; premium plugins $50–$200 a year each | You | Elementor, Jun 2026; JIM, Aug 2026 |
| Freelancer | $1,500–$8,000 | Hosting $0–$50/mo | One person | JIM, Aug 2026; GruffyGoat, Sep 2026 |
| Studio, AI-assisted (VITON13) | $113 | Your domain, hosting and email | AI drafts; a developer directs, checks and signs off | VITON13 service page |
| Studio, human-led (VITON13) | $173 | Your domain, hosting and email | A specialist builds; AI assists | VITON13 service page |
| Boutique agency | $6,000–$12,000 | Maintenance $50–$200/mo | A small team | JIM, Aug 2026 |
| Full-service agency | $10,000–$35,000 (Elementor); $12,000–$35,000+ (JIM) | Retainer $200–$500/mo | A full team | Elementor, Jun 2026; JIM, Aug 2026 |
Why does one quote say $1,500 and another $15,000?
Two quotes for “a five-page site” often describe different jobs. These lines move the price most:
- Content: who writes, photographs and translates. Low quotes assume you supply it; high ones often include copywriting and photography.
- Design: a template in your colours costs less than a layout designed around your services and tested on phones.
- Page types, not page count: ten pages from two templates cost less than five pages with a layout each.
- Integrations: CRM forms, booking, payments, maps, reviews and analytics events each add set-up and testing.
- Languages: each one adds translated pages, hreflang tags and sitemap entries to maintain.
- Migration: replacing an old site means mapping old URLs to new ones so links and search visibility carry over.
When a quote looks cheap, find the line it leaves out. When it looks expensive, ask what it includes that you do not need.
AI-assisted or human-led: what changes in price, timeline and review?
Every VITON13 package comes in two modes. AI-assisted: AI drafts code and layouts, and a developer directs, checks and signs off the work. Human-led: a specialist builds by hand, with AI as a helper. For a business website that is $113 against $173.
The published window, 3–5 working days, is the same for both, and so is the acceptance test: real content on target devices, crawlable pages, working forms and a documented publishing handoff. What changes is specialist time per page. Choose human-led for an unusual layout, close art direction, or medical and legal pages where every line has to be checked by hand. Choose AI-assisted when the structure is standard: services, about, contact, FAQ.
Landing page, Next.js build or business website: which scope do you need?
VITON13's web-build services start at different prices because their scopes differ, not their quality. A business website is the widest: on top of the build it adds a page for each service, each leading to an enquiry, and analytics set-up.
| Scope | Starting price | Window | What the scope covers | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Site Fix Pack | $33 AI-assisted or $53 human-led | 1–2 working days | Up to 5 agreed fixes on a live site, mobile and desktop check, before/after list | The site works but has specific faults |
| Landing page development | $73 AI-assisted or $93 human-led | 5–8 working days | Responsive frontend, forms and tracking, production deployment | One offer, one campaign, one action |
| Next.js website development | $73 AI-assisted or $93 human-led | 5–8 working days | App architecture, production build, deployment pipeline | Structure and design exist and need engineering |
| Business website development | $113 AI-assisted or $173 human-led | 3–5 working days | Responsive build, service pages, analytics set-up | You need service pages, enquiry tracking and an editor who publishes without a developer |
If your current site mostly works, a rebuild may not change the business result. The Site Fix Pack excludes new pages, redesign and migrations, so it fits only when the problems fit on a list.
What does a website cost to run each year?
The build is paid once; running costs arrive every year, whoever built the site. Budget them separately and register every account in your company's name.
| Item | Typical cost | What to check | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domain (.com) | $10–$20 a year | The renewal price, not the first-year offer | Elementor, Jun 2026; JIM, Aug 2026 |
| Hosting for a custom site | Shared $2–$15/mo; Vercel Pro $20/mo per seat | Vercel's free Hobby plan is for non-commercial use | JIM, Aug 2026; Vercel pricing |
| Builder plan | Squarespace $19–$49/mo billed annually (Basic to Plus) | Annual plans include a free domain for year one | Squarespace pricing |
| Business email | Google Workspace Business Starter $7 per user/mo | Booking pages start on Business Standard, $14 | Google Workspace pricing |
| Maintenance | $50–$200/mo | Where a small edit ends and new work begins | JIM, Aug 2026 |
| All ongoing costs, market range | $1,129–$5,010 a year | Includes backups, security monitoring and SEO tools | JIM, Aug 2026 |
Worked example: a custom-built site with two mailboxes pays $10–$20 for the domain, $240 for a year of Vercel Pro and $168 for two Business Starter seats — about $420–$430 a year before maintenance. On a builder, the plan replaces hosting.
How much do extra languages, booking or payments add?
Languages. In VITON13's launch scope the client supplies translations, so each language adds translation cost plus build time for extra pages, hreflang tags and sitemap entries. Volume grows fast: SB Excursions, a CLIENT site VITON13 built in five languages, listed 1,752 URLs in its sitemap on 22 September 2026. A multilingual build is scoped separately.
Booking. The cheapest route is an embedded scheduler; Google Workspace includes booking pages from Business Standard at $14 per user a month. A system built around your rooms, staff and deposits is a different product: VITON13's online booking platform starts at $213 AI-assisted or $313 human-led, over 15–30 working days.
Payments. Stripe charges 2.9% + 30¢ per successful domestic card transaction in the US, so fees grow with sales. Connecting a provider is payment system integration, from $73 AI-assisted or $93 human-led; a full shop is ecommerce development, from $113 AI-assisted or $173 human-led.
How long does a small business website take to launch?
VITON13 publishes 3–5 working days for a business website. The window assumes the inputs exist: a brief, your texts and images, and access to the domain and connected services. Missing inputs are listed before production, not discovered halfway. Launches usually stretch because of:
- texts arriving page by page after the build has started;
- several approvers per round and no named final decision-maker;
- pages or integrations added mid-project, which are quoted separately;
- domain or DNS access still held by a previous developer.
For comparison, JIM, citing Groto's pricing guide, puts a typical five-page brochure site from a freelancer at four to six weeks. If your date is fixed, say so in the brief: a priority start is checked against the queue and quoted separately.
What happens after launch: indexing, redirects and search visibility?
Publishing a site does not put it in Google. Google's documentation says crawling can take from a few days to a few weeks and that requesting a crawl does not guarantee inclusion. If the new site replaces an old one, every old URL needs an answer: a permanent redirect (301 or 308), kept for at least a year per Google's site-move guidance, or a deliberate 410 if the page is gone.
Skipped housekeeping surfaces later. On VITON13's own site, viton13.com (INTERNAL), Search Console counted 738 pages indexed and 2,572 not indexed on 21 August 2026, including 673 addresses answering 404. The clean-up set 1,008 retired URLs to answer 410 Gone and put 141 redirect rules in one map; on 19 September 2026, 604 of those 673 answered 410. No after-figures for indexing exist yet, so this shows the work, not a traffic result.
How do you compare website quotes line by line?
Put every quote into the same grid before looking at the total. A quote that cannot answer a line in writing is not cheaper; it has moved the cost to later.
- Deliverables: which pages and templates, on which devices, with which forms.
- Content: who writes, translates and supplies images, and by when.
- Revisions: how many rounds, and what counts as a new request.
- Integrations and external costs: which are included, which are quoted or billed separately.
- Ownership: domain, hosting and analytics in your business's name; code and admin access handed over.
- Launch work: deployment, redirects from the old site, sitemap submission, a test of every form.
- After launch: support price per month or per task, and the notice period.
- Timeline: the day the clock starts and what pauses it.

SB Excursions: a five-language Bali tours website
VITON13 designed and built SB Excursions for a Bali excursion company: a tour catalogue, tour pages with prices, an AI trip planner, a journal of guides and a WhatsApp enquiry route, in English, Chinese, Russian, Spanish and French. In the owner's Search Console report for the three months to 17 September 2026 the site had 1.08K clicks and 92.2K impressions from Google web search, a 1.2% average CTR and an average position of 10.8.
What this does not prove
- Search Console counts visits from Google, not bookings or revenue; enquiries continue in WhatsApp.
- It does not show which change caused the rise in daily clicks after 7 August.
- It is not a starting-price example: five languages and 1,752 sitemap URLs are far beyond the starting scope, and the budget is not published.
- Speed is a known weakness: Lighthouse gives the mobile home page 65 for performance.

Questions and answers
Is a website builder cheaper than hiring someone?
In cash, usually yes: you pay for a plan and nothing for the build. The real cost is your time and the limits of templates. A builder suits a simple brochure site you will edit yourself. Before choosing one, ask what you can take with you if you leave: not every builder exports the site's code, and a later move can mean rebuilding the design.
Do I own the website and the code?
You should, in writing. Ask for the domain, hosting and analytics accounts to be registered to your business, and for code and admin access to be handed over at launch. At VITON13 handoff terms are part of the written scope agreed before work starts, and delivery ends with a completion note.
Why is a VITON13 site cheaper than an agency quote?
The starting scope is narrow and production is partly automated: AI does repetitive drafting, a developer reviews it, and the saving is passed on in the price. Copywriting, photography, translations and integrations are not included; agency quotes of $10,000 and more often include them. Compare like for like first.
Does a redesign cost less than a new website?
It depends on what survives. If the structure and texts still work, targeted fixes cost far less than a rebuild. If the structure is wrong, a redesign is a new build plus a migration: every old URL is mapped to a new one, and titles, descriptions and structured data are carried over to limit the loss of search visibility during the move.
Do I need SEO work at launch?
You need the technical basics built in: crawlable pages, titles and descriptions, a sitemap, redirects from any old site and Search Console access. Ongoing SEO — content, links, audits — is a separate budget and decision. Nobody can honestly promise rankings for a new domain.
What should a small business website include at minimum?
A home page that says what you do and where; a page per main service with prices or ranges; proof such as work examples or reviews; an about page; contact details with a working form or messenger link; and privacy information. Everything else should earn its place.
