Social media post design cost: per post, per package or as a system?
Social media post design costs about $5–$20 on freelance marketplaces, $40 or more for branded work and $300–$1,500 a month as a package, according to ManyPixels; in India a static post runs ₹150–₹3,000. A design system pays once for the look, templates and rules. VITON13 builds one from $73.

How much does social media post design cost?
There is no single price because “a post” can be a quote card or a ten-slide carousel. The same piece costs a few dollars on a marketplace and over a hundred at an agency, and the ranges shift by country. Here is what sellers in three markets publish.
| Piece | US (USD) | UK (GBP) | India (INR) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single post | $5–$20 on marketplaces; from $40 branded; $75–$250 in one agency guide | £30–£80 | ₹150–₹3,000 |
| Carousel | $50–$500+; $150–$450 in the agency guide | no figure found | ₹600–₹8,000 |
| Story | $10–$75 | no figure found | ₹300–₹2,500 |
The sources disagree because they sell different jobs. VisualBest separates template-based static posts at ₹150–₹600 from custom layouts at ₹800–₹3,000, and warns that adapting a template to your brand takes minutes and is priced that way. Before comparing totals, ask which one the quote contains.
How much do social media design packages cost, and are they cheaper than paying per post?
ManyPixels, which sells subscriptions, says per-post pricing is cheaper until you cross roughly 8 to 10 designs a month; above that a package lowers the cost per piece. Treat the threshold as a seller’s rule of thumb, but the shape is right: volume changes the maths.
| Seller | What you get | Per month |
|---|---|---|
| Huckleberry Branding (US) | 5, 10 or 20 graphics, two revision rounds | $450, $750 or $1,200 |
| ManyPixels (US) | A daily output each business day, typically 2 to 3 social graphics, unlimited requests | $699 |
| Hatchly (UK) | Unlimited requests: posts, stories, carousels, banners | from £995 |
| UK market guide | 20 to 30 posts | £300–£800+ |
| India market guide | A freelancer, 10 to 20 assets, template-based | ₹8,000–₹50,000 |
| India market guide | A small agency, 20 to 40 assets with a working brand system | ₹50,000–₹2,00,000 |
A package buys production, not decisions. Someone still has to settle the grid, the type and what may change from post to post, or each month’s posts drift apart. That settling is what a design system does once.
What is the difference between Canva, a template pack and a design system?
| Route | What you get | Published price | Weak spot |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canva yourself | An editor, stock and a Brand Kit for logos, colours and fonts | Free tier; about $18 a month for Pro, $25 per person for Business | Consistency depends on whoever opens the file |
| Template pack | Finished editable layouts, often ten | $900 for ten in the US; £100–£300 for a branded pack in the UK | Files without rules, so it looks like everyone else’s |
| Monthly design service | A designer produces the posts | $450–$1,200, or from £995 unlimited | You pay every month and the look lives in their head |
| Design system | Art direction, a family of templates and written usage rules | VITON13: from $73, one-off | Someone must fill the templates every week |
Canva and a pack are tools, a package is labour, a system is a set of decisions. The cheapest route is often a system followed by your own production: pay once for the decisions, then make the posts in whatever editor your team already uses.
What should a social media design system contain?
A brand kit stores logos, colours and fonts. A design system adds the layouts and the rules for using them, which is the part that keeps posts looking like one brand.
- Art direction: the look on one page, with image style, cropping and what never appears.
- Grid and formats: margins, safe areas and the sizes you publish in, from feed to story.
- Type and colour: two or three fonts with sizes by role, and a palette with one accent.
- A template family: one layout per post type, built so words and pictures change but the structure does not.
- Usage rules: what is locked (logo, colours, type), what is free (photo, headline) and a few wrong examples.
- Handoff: editable files and a short written guide, so the next person picks the right template.
Amplify Creative Lab, a Perth agency, frames it the same way: lock the logo, colours and type, and leave images, headlines and body copy free.
How many templates does a small brand really need?
Count post types, not platforms. Amplify Creative Lab tells clients to list the 8 to 15 post types they publish most and build around those. Our rule of thumb is tighter: one template for every type you will publish at least twice a month, which for most small brands means six to ten.
- Carousel cover with a one-line hook
- Carousel body for a lesson or list
- Proof post: a result, a review or a case
- Quote or single statistic
- Offer or announcement
- Story set of three frames
- Photo post with a caption bar
Cap each template at two variants, such as light and dark. Variants multiply faster than anyone fills them, and a library nobody uses is the same as no library.
How do you keep posts consistent without making them identical?
- Fix the frame and vary the picture: same grid, type and colour roles, different image and headline.
- Pick one accent colour and one signature detail, such as a corner mark or a number style.
- Write the don’ts: five wrong examples teach more than a page of principles.
- Give one person the template folder, and line up the last nine posts side by side once a month.
- Refresh the set when the brand changes, not every season.
A template used exactly as downloaded, with default fonts and a stock photo, looks like everyone else’s. A system exists to make the structure yours.
When is a design system worth paying for, and when not?
Take twelve pieces a month. At $25–$100 for a branded post (Divine Technologies) that is $300–$1,200 a month; at £30–£80 it is £360–£960; at ₹800–₹3,000 for custom work in India it is ₹9,600–₹36,000. A system does not remove those fees, it removes the redesigning: every piece starts from a template instead of a blank page.
- Worth it: you publish eight or more pieces a month, the threshold ManyPixels gives for packages beating single posts.
- Worth it: more than one person, or a rotating freelancer, makes the posts.
- Worth it: lined up, your last nine posts do not look like one brand.
- Worth it: you are about to buy a package or subscription and want every designer to follow the same rules.
- Not yet: you post fewer than four times a month; a few Canva templates are enough.
- Not yet: the logo, colours or type are undecided; a brand identity comes first.
- Not yet: the problem is the content, with no clear offer and no recurring themes; start with strategy.

How VITON13 does it
We build the system, not the monthly posts. The work runs through research, visual direction, production and handoff, and ends in three things: content art direction, a family of templates and written usage rules. Files and guidance arrive in formats meant for real use, not only for a presentation. AI-assisted: AI drafts layouts and variants, and a designer checks every template. Human-led: a designer leads and AI assists. The written scope and price arrive within one working day of your brief.

Our own account: ten carousels on two style sheets
VITON13 laid out ten Instagram carousels, 83 slides, for its own services account. Six white lesson carousels share one style sheet and three dark proof carousels share another; the tenth has its own look. Each slide is exported at 3:4 for the app and as a 4:5 centre crop for schedulers, so nothing important falls outside the crop. It is the small version of what a system does: the structure is fixed and the content is free.
What this does not prove
- These are our own posts, not a client commission, and the case holds no reach, save or enquiry data, so it does not show that a system raises engagement.
- On 27 September 2026 nine of the carousels were scheduled, not yet published, so it proves nothing about how they performed.
Questions and answers
How much does a social media post design cost in India?
Sellers publish ₹150–₹3,000 for a static post: ₹150–₹600 for template-based work and ₹800–₹3,000 for a custom layout, according to VisualBest (June 2026). Carousels run ₹600–₹8,000 and stories ₹300–₹2,500. Ask whether GST is included and how many revision rounds the price covers.
What should a quote for social media design list?
The formats and sizes, the number of pieces, the revision rounds, whether you receive editable source files, who pays for fonts and stock images, and who owns the finished files. Ask whether tax is included. A quote that says only “10 posts” leaves every one of those open.
Is Canva enough, or do I need a designer?
Canva is enough when one person posts a few times a month from a fixed set of templates and the colours and fonts are already decided. A designer is for the decisions: the look, the grid and the rules. Canva Pro costs about $18 a month per Moda’s tracker, so the tool is cheap; inconsistency is what costs.
Who owns the templates and the files?
Settle it in writing before you pay: whether you get editable files, who owns them and who pays for fonts. At VITON13, agreed rights and editable files pass to you under the project terms after payment, while font licences and other third-party rights stay separate.
How long does a design system take?
VITON13’s social content design system takes 3–6 working days once the brief and inputs are approved. The time goes on the art direction and the written rules, which is why a system takes longer than a single post but is made once.
How often should the templates be updated?
Review the published posts monthly and refresh the set when the brand changes. Amplify Creative Lab suggests revisiting a template library every six to twelve months. Change the frame rarely: the point is that posts stay recognisable while the pictures and words change.
