How much does video editing cost in 2026: per hour, per minute, per Reel and per project
Video editing in 2026 costs $50–400 for a Reel or TikTok, $75–200 per finished minute for professional work and $100–250 an hour at an agency; on Upwork, entry-level editors charge a median $10 an hour. At VITON13 one vertical edit from your footage is $33 AI-assisted or $53 human-led, delivered in 1–2 working days.

How much does video editing cost per hour, per finished minute and per project?
Each billing model hides a different risk. An hourly rate is fair to the editor but leaves the total open until the invoice. A per-minute rate suits long videos and misprices short ones: 20 seconds of ad creative packs more decisions per second than an hour-long webinar. A project price is clear only when it lists what is delivered.
| Billing model | Price | What sits behind it | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hourly, Upwork freelancers | Entry: under $30 (median $10); mid: $31–60 (median $40); senior: $61–150 (median $100) | Historical contract rates worldwide | Upwork, accessed 23 Sep 2026 |
| Hourly, agency | $100–250 | Editor, motion designer, sound and a project manager | Vidico, 1 Jun 2026 |
| Per finished minute | $75–200 | Professional editing only, no shooting | Moonb, 9 Jul 2026 |
| Per gig, Fiverr | Basic edit: $65 on average; social media videos from $10 a minute | Fixed gig tiers set by each seller | Fiverr, accessed 23 Sep 2026 |
Ask each editor to restate their rate as one price for your video: “one 30-second Reel, captions, two formats, two revision rounds”. Only then do quotes compare.
What does it cost to edit a Reel, a YouTube video, a paid-social ad and a brand film?
The longer a viewer must stay and the more a mistake costs, the more the edit costs.
| Video type | Per project | Per finished minute | VITON13 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts | $50–400 | $10–50 | Single Reel: $33 AI-assisted or $53 human-led; Reels Pack, up to 5 edits: $53 AI-assisted or $73 human-led |
| Long-form YouTube video | $300–1,500 | $20–100 | Quoted after a footage review |
| Paid-social ad creative | $250–1,200 | $25–100 | Campaign Edit, hero cut plus short versions: $73 AI-assisted or $93 human-led |
| Corporate or brand video | $400–2,000 | $30–150 | Full post-production of one film: $93 AI-assisted or $113 human-led |
| Documentary | $3,000–15,000+ | $100–500 | No fixed package |
Vertical video is the cheapest format to edit and the most demanding in its first seconds. Instagram lets you record and edit reels up to 20 minutes but does not recommend reels over 3 minutes to new audiences; YouTube Shorts stop at 3 minutes. One 9:16 master usually serves Reels, Shorts and TikTok, but captions and covers are checked against each interface.
Freelancer, marketplace, studio or in-house: what changes besides the price?
The rest of the bill shows up after you pay: who owns the deadline, how many rounds are included, who keeps the project files.
| Route | Typical cost | Who is accountable | Where it breaks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marketplace: Upwork, Fiverr | Median $10–100 an hour by tier, or gig packages | One seller; disputes go through the platform | Scope, rounds and file handoff differ per seller |
| Independent freelancer | Hourly or per project | One person | Motion, colour and sound may need more specialists |
| In-house editor | US median pay $75,420 a year (May 2025), plus benefits, hardware and software | An employee you manage | Pays off with a steady flow; idle weeks are still paid |
| Studio with fixed packages | From $33 per video at VITON13 | The studio, with scope, timeline and rounds in writing | Anything outside the package is quoted separately |
In-house also means software: DaVinci Resolve is free, its Studio version with the AI tools is a one-time $295, and Adobe Premiere is US$22.99 a month on an annual plan. The salary is the BLS median for film and video editors across all industries.
What does AI-assisted editing change in price and quality, and what does it not change?
AI has taken over the most mechanical hours. Adobe Premiere transcribes footage so an editor can build a rough cut by selecting lines of text. DaVinci Resolve Studio isolates voices from noise, separates people and objects with Magic Mask and reframes horizontal footage for vertical. Captions, pause removal and finding the right take now take minutes. What still needs a person:
- The first seconds and scene order: the model does not know which objection the video must answer.
- Prices, dates and specs on screen: auto-captions still mishear names and numbers.
- Rights to music, fonts, third-party footage and faces in frame.
- A final watch of every version on a phone: safe zones, caption legibility, loudness.
- Disclosure: YouTube requires creators to flag realistic content made or meaningfully altered with AI; colour correction, captions and background blur need no label.
At VITON13 these are two modes of one package. AI-assisted: the model drafts the cut and an editor directs, corrects and signs it off, so a Single Reel is $33. Human-led: an editor cuts it and AI handles routine steps, for $53. Scope and timeline are identical; the difference is specialist hours.
What pushes the quote up: footage, revision rounds, captions, colour, sound, motion graphics, music licensing?
| Factor | Why it costs more | Market reference |
|---|---|---|
| Raw footage volume | Two hours of footage for a 30-second video means hours of viewing before the first cut | Upwork lists footage volume and condition among the first budget factors |
| Revision rounds | Two or three are usually included; extra rounds are billed | $50–200+ per extra round (Vidico) |
| Rush delivery | A next-day turnaround bumps other jobs | +25–50% (Moonb, Vidico) |
| Captions | Fixing names and numbers, keeping text clear of the app interface | Transcription is built into Premiere; the correction pass is the paid part |
| Colour and sound | Matching clips from different phones, true product colour, clean voice under music | Moonb puts real grading at senior rates of $85–150+ an hour |
| Motion graphics | Animated titles, infographics, a moving logo | $800–3,000 for an explainer or motion piece (Vidico) |
| Music | An ad needs a track licensed for commercial use | Epidemic Sound Pro, which covers digital ads: $16.99 a month billed $203.88 yearly |
What should you send an editor to keep the price down?
Each item removes an hour of viewing or back-and-forth. It is the list we ask for before quoting.
- Goal and placementOne sentence on what the viewer should do next, and where the video runs: Reels, TikTok, Shorts, an ad or a product page.
- Length and formatsFor example 30 seconds in 9:16 and 4:5. Each extra format is another framing pass.
- Selected takesOnly the clips that matter, with timecodes for the good lines. Viewing an extra hour of footage is billable.
- Script or transcriptWith product names, people and prices spelled correctly.
- Brand kitA vector logo, licensed fonts, colours and one past video you like.
- A music decisionA licensed track, a library link or “no music”. Arguing about the track in round three is the priciest argument in editing.
- One approverAll notes in one list with timecodes, from one person.
Phone footage works when it is shot in decent light, held steady and recorded with clean sound. An overexposed clip can only be rescued within what the camera captured.
Which VITON13 editing package fits which job?
| What you have and need | What to order | Timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Ready footage, one vertical video: an announcement, a testimonial, a promo | Single Reel | 1–2 working days |
| One shoot or an archive, a series of short videos | Reels Pack | 1–2 working days from footage delivery |
| A launch or promotion: a hero cut and short ad versions | Campaign Edit | 3–5 working days |
| One finished film with colour and sound: an interview, a company film | Post-production | 7–12 working days |
| Videos every month | Monthly Content Engine | Monthly cycle, volume agreed in advance |
| No footage, or footage that cannot carry the idea | Commercial production | 15–30 working days, estimate approved before booking |
Shooting is left out of every editing package on purpose: a filming day is priced by crew, location and kit, and folding it into an edit price would hide the biggest line in the budget. The Monthly Content Engine's setup fee and monthly rate are on the service page.
Full production or editing only: when do you need the whole cycle?
Full production means one team owns the idea, script, location, talent, crew, shoot, edit, colour, sound and every platform version. It makes sense when:
- existing footage cannot carry the idea: no product in use, no real people, no fitting setting;
- the video fronts a launch and will run in paid media for months;
- one shoot day must yield a hero film, verticals, cutdowns and product-page stills.
Editing is enough when a founder films regularly, when there is an archive to mine, or when you are testing an ad angle. Moonb prices the edit of a polished brand or product video at $800–2,000; production adds crew, kit, location and talent. Our commercial production starts at $213 for a compact controlled shoot, with talent, locations, travel, licensed music and paid stock estimated separately and approved before booking.

Films on VITON13's own sites: delivery for different screens
VITON13 has no published client editing case yet, so this is internal work. Two AI-generated films play in the first block of store.viton13.com and studio.viton13.com: a 23.32-second store loop at 25 fps (7.2 MB) and an 11.08-second studio loop at 24 fps (3.4 MB), both 1920×1080, silent, with a poster frame for visitors without JavaScript. On the VITON XIII page, the GELO film is cut into 169 frames that play on scroll: a 1440×810 desktop set of 3.1 MB and a separate 720×810 phone crop of 2.2 MB. The phone gets its own version of the frame, the same logic as exporting per placement.
What this does not prove
- These are our own AI-generated films for our own sites, not an edit of client footage, and they were not made as one of our packages or at their prices.
- How the GELO render itself was made is not documented; the example covers only cutting it into frames and playing them on scroll.
- The files carry no sound, and there is no view, engagement or sales data.

Questions and answers
How much does it cost to edit a one-minute video?
Per-minute rates rarely apply to a clip this short, because most editors set a floor: a basic Fiverr edit averages $65, and Vidico's short-form projects start at $50. At VITON13 the Single Reel covers up to 45 seconds; a one-minute video falls outside it, so we scope it from your footage before you pay.
How long does it take to edit one Reel?
From ready footage, a single vertical edit takes us 1–2 working days; a pack of up to five, 1–2 working days. The clock starts once every file, the text and the music decision are in. If the post is tied to a date, say so up front: we confirm a priority slot only after seeing the footage.
What counts as one revision round?
One consolidated list of notes on a version, after which the editor delivers a new one. Ten messages sent at different times are not one round. Changing the brief after approval, say a new hook and a new track, is new scope and is quoted separately.
Who owns the finished videos and the project files?
You receive the videos on the delivery list, and usage rights are set in writing. The Premiere or DaVinci project is handed over only when the scope names it, so ask before the job starts. Music, stock and fonts stay under their own licences, so check the track licence before a video goes into ads.
What is the difference between editing and post-production?
Editing is take selection, scene order, pacing and captions. Post-production adds colour grading, sound, graphics and every delivery version. For social clips, editing is usually enough; a company film or an ad that will run for months needs the full pass. We sell it as a separate service, delivered in 7–12 working days.
