How much does a logo cost in 2026? Prices, files and what is not included
A logo costs anything from $0 with an AI generator to $10,000+ at a branding agency; a freelance designer typically charges $300–2,000 (ManyPixels, September 2026). VITON13's Logo Route is $53 AI-assisted or $73 human-led, with vector files and rights assigned in the contract. Trademark registration and font licences are extra almost everywhere.

How much does a logo cost in 2026, by route?
The route sets the price more than the drawing does. The gap between routes is how much thinking, checking and paperwork comes with the file.
| Route | Price | What you usually get | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI logo generator | $0–30 a month | An instantly generated mark and basic file exports; no strategy | ManyPixels, 2 Sep 2026 |
| Logo maker (Looka) | $35 for one PNG; $72 with SVG, EPS and PDF | A generated mark; the $72 tier adds colour variations. Looka says you own the logo as a whole, not its individual elements such as the symbol | Looka pricing, checked 23 Sep 2026 |
| Design contest (99designs) | $249–1,050 plus sales tax | About 30–90 concepts from competing designers; you pick one winner | 99designs pricing, checked 23 Sep 2026 |
| Freelance designer | $300–2,000 | Discovery, 2–4 concepts, revisions and a full file set | ManyPixels, 2 Sep 2026 |
| VITON13 Logo Route, AI-assisted | $53 | AI drafts, a designer directs and checks; one direction, vector files, rights by contract | Our published package |
| VITON13 Logo Route, human-led | $73 | A designer does the work, AI only assists; same files and scope | Our published package |
| Branding agency | $3,000–10,000+ | Research, positioning, a full identity system and guidelines | ManyPixels, 2 Sep 2026 |
At the bottom of the table, price says little: the file list and the rights separate a usable logo from a placeholder. At the top, the step from $2,000 to $3,000+ buys research and a system around the mark, not a better drawing.
Why does one logo cost $50 and another $5,000?
Six things move the price. A quote that does not mention one of them has usually left it out, not thrown it in for free.
- Discovery: a call, a look at competitors, a list of where the mark will live. Skipping it is the quickest way to cut a price.
- Directions: each real direction is separate design work, not a colour swap.
- Revision rounds: two rounds is standard in freelance quotes, and "unlimited revisions" are priced in somewhere (ManyPixels).
- File set: one PNG costs less than vector masters plus mono, inverted and small versions.
- Rights: a licence to use a template is not the same as an assignment of rights in a drawing made for you.
- Speed: rush work adds 25–50% to a typical freelance quote (ManyPixels).
AI shortens drafting, which is why a studio can publish a fixed price below the freelance range in the table. It does not remove the checks: does the mark read at favicon size, in one colour, on a dark photo, and does it resemble someone else's? Those checks are what the fee pays a person for.
Which files should a paid logo come with?
Ask for the file list before you pay, not at handoff. A logo that exists only as a PNG gets rebuilt the first time a sign-maker, an embroiderer or a packaging supplier asks for vector.
| File or rule | What it is for | What happens without it |
|---|---|---|
| SVG vector master | Websites and apps; scaling to any size | Blurry edges on large screens, then a paid redraw |
| PDF vector file | Printers, sign-makers, packaging suppliers | The printer asks for the source file and you do not have it |
| PNG with a transparent background | Documents, slides, social profiles | White boxes around the mark on coloured backgrounds |
| Mono (one-colour) version | Stamps, embroidery, engraving, one-ink print | Someone improvises a grey version |
| Inverted version | Dark backgrounds, photos, dark mode | The mark disappears on black |
| Safe zone | Keeps text and edges away from the mark | Logos jammed against buttons and borders |
| Minimum size | The smallest size at which the mark still reads | A favicon nobody can recognise |
| Written rights assignment | Proof that the drawing belongs to your company | Nothing to show a registry, an investor or a buyer |
Ask your printer whether a vector PDF is enough before paying extra for AI or EPS files. Colour codes, a type scale and guidelines belong to an identity package.
What does AI-assisted mean for a paid logo, and who owns the result?
At VITON13 every package has two modes. AI-assisted means AI produces drafts and a designer directs, selects and checks the work. Human-led means a designer does the work and AI only assists. The files and scope are the same; the difference between $53 and $73 pays for more of a specialist's hours.
Ownership is where the modes can differ. In its report of 29 January 2025, the US Copyright Office concluded that copyright does not cover purely AI-generated material, that prompts alone do not give enough control, and that human selection, arrangement or modification of AI output can be protected, case by case.
So "do I own my logo?" is three questions. Did the supplier assign the rights to you in writing? Is there enough human authorship for copyright to exist? Is the mark registered as a trademark, a separate system? A contract answers the first. If the second matters, choose the human-led mode or ask any supplier to record who drew what.
What is not included in a logo price: trademark, fonts, printing?
Cheap and expensive quotes leave out the same items, and together they can cost more than the logo.
| Item | Who charges | What it costs | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| US trademark application | USPTO | $350 per class of goods or services (base application fee) | USPTO fee schedule, checked 23 Sep 2026 |
| Commercial typeface in a wordmark | The type foundry | Set by the foundry's licence; a desktop licence at minimum for logo use | MyFonts FAQ, checked 23 Sep 2026 |
| Font under the SIL Open Font License | Nobody | Free; the licence FAQ explicitly allows logos | SIL OFL FAQ, checked 23 Sep 2026 |
Add an attorney's clearance search and your printer's quotes. A designer's check for obvious look-alikes, which we do, is not a legal clearance search, and no designer can promise that a mark will register.
MyFonts notes that most desktop font licences allow scalable logo files only for the household or company that licensed the font. A wordmark a designer sets in a paid typeface may therefore need a licence in your company's name: ask which typeface the mark uses, or ask for an OFL font.
How many concepts and revision rounds should a logo quote include?
There is no correct number, only a stated one. A contest buys breadth: about 30 concepts at the $249 tier on 99designs, drawn on spec by designers working from your written brief. A freelancer typically shows 2–4 concepts and includes two revision rounds (ManyPixels). A fixed-price package buys depth in one direction.
Logo Route is one drawn direction with 1 revision round, and the quote says so. The shape is judged in black and white before any colour goes on, so a weak form cannot hide behind a palette. To compare several directions, say so in the brief: that is a larger scope, such as our Brand Sprint package with a direction board and 2 revision rounds, priced before you pay.
- Define a revision in writing: changes to the chosen direction, not a new concept.
- Send comments from every approver as one list.
- Ask what happens after the last round.
When should you buy a brand identity instead of a logo?
Buy the logo alone when one person will apply it to a handful of surfaces: a site header, social avatars, invoices. Buy an identity ($93 AI-assisted or $113 human-led, 6–10 working days) when other people will make things with your brand and need rules they can follow without calling you.
- Packaging, signage or uniforms are planned for the coming months.
- A website, a marketplace store and printed materials will be made by different suppliers.
- You need colours as fixed values, a type scale and a guidelines document, not just a mark.
- You are replacing a logo that customers already recognise.
How do you compare three logo quotes side by side?
Put the quotes in one table and fill every cell. The empty cells are the real price difference.
| Line in the quote | What a complete quote states | Red flag |
|---|---|---|
| Who does the work | The mode (AI-assisted or human-led) or a named designer | "Our team", with no detail |
| Directions | A number, and whether they are drawn or template-based | "Unlimited concepts" |
| Revisions | Number of rounds and what counts as one | "Unlimited revisions" with no end point |
| Files | SVG, PDF, PNG, mono and inverted, safe zone, minimum size | "High-resolution logo" |
| Rights | A written assignment on payment | A licence, or silence |
| Look-alike check | A visual check, with legal clearance excluded in writing | "Trademark-safe" or "100% unique" |
| Fonts | Typeface named and licence status stated | No mention |
| Timeline | Working days counted from an approved brief | A date with no starting point |
| Exclusions | Listed: trademark, fonts, printing, identity | No exclusions at all |
A $600 quote for one PNG under a licence costs more per usable file than a smaller quote with the full set and a signed assignment.

VITON13's own marks: what a working logo file set looks like
VITON13 has no published client logo case yet; the marks on the logo page are labelled as concepts. The closest proof is internal: VITON13's own brands, 5 marks (2 drawn, 3 set in type) with one accent, #5ac8ff on black, used in 10 CSS modules. The VITON13 SCHOOL globe-V is SVG on a 1000-unit grid, drawn in currentColor, and exported as an SVG file and a 1600 × 1600 PNG. One component draws the VITON13 lockup in three tones (auto, light and dark) and three sizes: the same job the inverted version and the minimum size do in a Logo Route file set.
What this does not prove
- It is internal work, not a client commission, so it shows nothing about client briefs or approvals.
- It was not produced under the Logo Route package or at its price.
- There is no brand book: the rules live in code.
- Nothing in the case measures recognition or sales.

Questions and answers
Does a text-only logo cost less than a symbol?
Often, because there is less to draw, but part of the saving moves elsewhere: to a licence for the typeface and to the same tests a symbol needs, at small sizes, in one colour and on dark backgrounds. VITON13's own brands use both kinds: 2 drawn marks and 3 set in type.
Can I use a logo made with ChatGPT or another AI generator for my business?
Usually yes, within the tool's terms. The practical problems are files and uniqueness: the output is often a raster image that will not scale to a sign, and a similar prompt can give someone else a similar mark. Before printing, have it redrawn as vector and checked for look-alikes.
How long does a logo take?
ManyPixels puts a freelancer at two to four weeks and an agency at four to twelve, mostly discovery and revision cycles, not drawing. Logo Route takes 1–2 working days from an approved brief because its scope is fixed. The slowest step is usually collecting the buyer's comments.
Should I register my logo as a trademark straight away?
Not on day one, but before you pay for signage, packaging or a large print run. A trademark attorney's clearance search comes first, so you do not pay filing fees for an application likely to fail. Registration covers only the classes you file, so list what you sell now and plan to sell.
Should I fix my existing logo or start again?
Decide before you brief anyone: a new mark also has to be replaced on every sign, profile and package. A brand visual audit ($33 AI-assisted or $53 human-led) checks whether the current mark breaks at small sizes, in one colour or on dark backgrounds. If the shape holds, clean vector files may be enough.
What should I send before ordering a logo?
The exact name spelling, what you sell and to whom, the surfaces the mark must survive (site, sign, packaging, embroidery, app icon), its smallest size, how many print colours you can use and two or three competitors to avoid resembling. Name one person who approves the result.
