How much does branding cost in 2026? What a brand identity budget actually buys
Branding costs from about $500 with a freelancer to over $80,000 at a national agency (8gnc, July 2026); most agency projects reviewed on Clutch land between $10,000 and $49,999. Scope makes the spread: strategy, naming, identity, guidelines, rollout. VITON13's brand identity is $93 AI-assisted or $113 human-led, with strategy and naming priced separately.

How much does branding cost in 2026, by type of provider?
Branding quotes span three orders of magnitude because the word names different purchases. A freelancer usually sells a mark with a few rules; a large agency sells research, workshops, a full system and people to roll it out. Find your row before you read the number.
| Provider | Typical range | What the fee usually covers | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Freelance designer | $500–5,000 | A logo with a basic identity | 8gnc, July 2026 |
| Boutique studio | $5,000–30,000 | An identity system: mark, type, colour and usage rules | 8gnc, July 2026 |
| Studio engagement with a website | $15,000–80,000 | Strategy, identity and a website | 8gnc, July 2026 |
| Agencies reviewed on Clutch | Most projects $10,000–49,999; $100–149 an hour | Branding projects of every size; a typical engagement lasts 8 months | Clutch, 21 Sep 2026 |
| National agency | $80,000–300,000+ | A full rebrand with research phases | 8gnc, July 2026 |
| VITON13 brand identity | $93 AI-assisted or $113 human-led | Logo system, palette, type scale, icons, rules for 5 carriers and guidelines in 6–10 working days | Our published package |
Clutch also prints an average of $71,651.70 per project, far above the band where most reviewed projects sit: a few very large engagements pull the mean up. For a budget, the common band says more.
What are you actually paying for in a branding project?
Split any branding quote into five layers. Each produces a different document, and each can be bought separately, at different times.
| Layer | What it produces | Market range | VITON13 package |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strategy and positioning | Who the brand serves, why it wins, a one-line position and key messages | $2,500–25,000+ | Brand positioning |
| Naming | Name territories, a shortlist, linguistic screening and domain checks | $2,000–25,000+ | Brand naming |
| Visual identity | Logo system, palette, typography, icons, visual style | $2,500–30,000+ | Brand identity |
| Guidelines | The rulebook a new supplier works from | $3,000–15,000 | Brand guidelines |
| Rollout | The system applied to decks, the website, packaging and signs | $5,000–20,000+ | Quoted per surface |
The logo, the item most buyers picture, is one line inside the identity layer. Our logo pricing guide covers that line; this one prices the stack around it, where most of a large quote goes.
Which line items push a branding quote up or down?
Once the layers are chosen, seven things set the number. If a proposal is silent on one, ask: silence usually means it was cut, not included free.
- Research depth: desk research is quick; customer interviews are days of senior time.
- Decision-makers: every extra approver adds a meeting and often a revision round.
- Naming reach: several markets need a linguistic check in each language.
- Trademark screening: a designer's look-alike check is not legal clearance, and filing is charged per class and per country.
- Carriers: an identity tested on 5 surfaces costs less than one applied to 40 templates.
- Motion and sound: an animated logo or a sonic mark is a separate craft.
- Speed: NEWMEDIA reports that rush fees can easily double the standard rate.
Trademark fees are the line buyers forget. A US application costs $350 per class at the USPTO; an EU trade mark costs €850 for one class filed online at the EUIPO; an international application through WIPO's Madrid System starts with a basic fee of 653 Swiss francs (903 if the mark is in colour), plus a fee for every country you designate. Attorney fees come on top.
What does a small company need at launch, and what can wait?
Size the first purchase to the next twelve months. Ramotion prices a minimal startup package (a visual positioning document, logo and wordmark, primary palette and basic logo guidelines) at $3,000–7,500 on average (December 2025): roughly the middle column below.
| Layer | Launch minimum | Fuller version, added later |
|---|---|---|
| Strategy | One page: the buyer, their alternatives, why you win, a one-line position | Brand platform with values, narrative and a message architecture |
| Naming | One name screened for obvious conflicts, with the domain and social handles secured | A naming system for product lines and sub-brands |
| Identity | Logo system, fixed colour values, one type family, a small icon set | Illustration, photo style, motion, an extended palette |
| Guidelines | A short document for the carriers you use today | A full brandbook with templates for each department |
| Rollout | Website, social profiles, invoice and one printed item | Signage, packaging families, uniforms, events |
| Legal | A clearance search by an attorney before anything is printed | Registration in each market and class you sell in |
Adding the right column later costs little extra if the core was fixed as numbers the first time. Anyone can extend colour values and type sizes; a brand described in adjectives has to be redrawn.
How do you compare branding proposals that list different things?
Branding proposals rarely line up: one lists workshops, another counts pages of guidelines. Rewrite each as answers to the same eight questions before comparing prices.
- Which of the five layers are in this price, and which will be quoted later?
- How is the strategy produced, and what document comes out?
- How many names will you see, and how are they screened?
- How many identity directions, and how many revision rounds on the chosen one?
- Which carriers is the system applied to, listed by name?
- How long are the guidelines, and in what format: PDF, Figma file or web page?
- When do the rights pass to your company, and which source files are handed over?
- Is the work AI-assisted or human-led, and who signs off each stage?
Then put the answers next to the price: counted per usable document, the lowest quote is not always the cheaper buy.
When is a large agency worth the money, and when is it not?
A six-figure agency budget buys what a small team cannot supply: research across several countries, workshops with a board, dozens of stakeholders kept aligned and rollout across hundreds of assets. If your rebrand touches a franchise network or a brand customers already know well, that coordination is the product, and a fixed package is the wrong tool.
It is poor value when one founder decides, the audience sits in one market and the brand will live on a website, social profiles and a few printed items. There, much of the fee pays for process built for bigger organisations; a package that ships the launch minimum puts the money where customers look.
How long does a branding project take?
Clutch's reviewers describe a typical branding engagement of 8 months, covering research, approvals and rollout, not only design. Much of that calendar is waiting: for interviews, board meetings and trademark searches.
At VITON13 the Brand Sprint takes 1–2 working days, brand naming 3–5 working days, positioning 5–8 working days and the full identity 6–10 working days.
Working days count from an approved brief; the slowest step is usually collecting comments from everyone who must say yes. Registration runs on the trademark office's calendar, so file early when the launch date is fixed.
Which VITON13 package fits your stage?
| Your situation | Package | Price | What you get | Revisions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| No brand yet and a launch within days | Brand Sprint | $93 AI-assisted or $113 human-led | Direction board, key logo route, typography system | 2 rounds on the chosen direction |
| Launching, and other people will make your material | Brand identity | $93 AI-assisted or $113 human-led | Logo system, palette, type scale, 12 icons, rules tested on 5 carriers, guidelines of about 15 pages | 3 rounds across the system |
| The brand lives mainly inside an app or a SaaS product | Product Identity System | $93 AI-assisted or $113 human-led | UI system, reusable components, design handoff | 3 rounds across the system |
| A working logo but no rules | Brand guidelines | $73 AI-assisted or $113 human-led | A rulebook built on your current mark | 2 rounds |
| No name yet | Brand naming | $53 AI-assisted or $73 human-led | Naming criteria, shortlisted territories, screening report | 1 round |
Every package runs in two modes. AI-assisted: AI drafts variants, and a designer directs, selects and signs off. Human-led: a designer does the work and AI only assists. Same scope and files; the higher price buys a specialist's hours. Brand Sprint and the full identity cost the same for different jobs: the Sprint buys speed and one direction within days, the identity the complete system and its rules.
How VITON13 does it
The brand identity package suits a company with a product and a launch date but no system yet. We list where your brand appears, fix the core as exact values and test it on five real carriers before writing the rules. Describe the task: a written scope, timeline and final price come back within one working day, and nothing starts until you approve them.

CONCEPTConcept — not a commissioned project
NUMBER ONE®: the strategy and rules layer, written before any logo
NUMBER ONE® is a brand VITON13 invented to show strategy and guidelines work where we have no client project to point to. Its concept book, a file dated 12 September 2026, has 12 sections: a one-line position (“You can’t buy Number One. You have to become one.”), 4 mandatory eligibility conditions, a 6-step award protocol, a registry with NFC checks and 7 governance principles that keep the mark credible. For the visual layer, our internal case on VITON13's own brands shows a lean system: five marks, one accent colour.
What this does not prove
- A fictional brand, never launched: no recipients, garments, registry entries or NFC tags exist.
- The book is text only, with no logo files, palette or type scale, so it shows nothing about our visual identity work.
- It was written on our own initiative, not under a paid package or a client brief.
- The ® belongs to the concept's styling: no trademark search was made, and nothing measures demand or recognition.

Questions and answers
Is branding a one-off cost or an ongoing one?
The project is one-off; using the brand is not. 8gnc lists brand retainers at $3,000–10,000 a month for brand operations and content. VITON13 packages are one-off fees, and later work, such as a packaging line, is quoted as its own scope when a channel needs it.
Can I write the strategy myself and pay only for design?
Yes, if it fits on one page: who buys, what they compare you with, why you win and the words the brand should own. A designer can work from that. What you give up is an outside check on the position; brand positioning ($73 AI-assisted or $93 human-led) adds it.
Should the name be final before the identity is designed?
Yes. The letters shape the logo, and a name that fails a trademark search after the design is finished takes the design down with it. Our naming package includes linguistic screening and domain checks; legal clearance still belongs to a trademark attorney.
What happens if the AI-assisted drafts miss the brand?
The drafts are raw material, not the delivery: a designer directs them, discards what does not fit and signs off the system. If a direction still misses, the revision rounds in your scope fix it. When the brand depends on nuance only a person will catch, choose the human-led mode.
How is a VITON13 branding package paid for?
Nothing is charged until you approve the written scope and final price. You then pay by card, PayPal, bank transfer or another route listed in the sales policy. If you cancel after work has started, only the work done by then is charged and the rest is refunded.
Does a rebrand cost more than building a brand from scratch?
Often, because an existing brand has assets to audit, customers who recognise it and more people to convince. 8gnc puts a full rebrand at $25,000–150,000+. A brand visual audit ($33 AI-assisted or $53 human-led) first shows whether a refresh is enough.
Who owns the brand assets when the project ends?
Under the studio's sales policy, rights in the delivered work pass to your company once the final price is paid. Two things sit outside that transfer: typeface licences, which we name so you can buy them, and trademark rights, which come from registration, not from a design contract.
