How much do Google Ads cost in 2026, and how big should your budget be?
Google Ads has no fixed price: you pay per click, set by an auction. LocalIQ’s 2026 benchmarks put the average search click at $5.42 and a lead at $66.69, with 8.18% of clicks converting. So $1,000 a month buys about 184 clicks and 15 enquiries at average rates. VITON13 sets campaigns up from $33.
How does Google Ads pricing work?
Google Ads is an auction, not a price list. Every time someone searches, advertisers who target that query compete for the positions, and the price of a click depends on what competitors are willing to pay, how relevant your ad is and how useful the page behind it looks. You never pay more than the maximum you set, and you control spending through a daily or monthly budget, which you can stop at any time.
This means two businesses in the same city can pay very different amounts for the same query. A clear ad that leads to a fast, relevant page is rewarded with cheaper clicks; a vague ad sending people to a slow home page pays more for worse traffic. The budget is only one of the levers, and usually not the strongest.
What does a click and a lead cost in 2026?
| Metric | All-industry average | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Cost per click | $5.42 | What one visit from a search ad costs on average |
| Click-through rate | 6.64% | Share of people who see the ad and click it |
| Conversion rate | 8.18% | Share of clicks that become an enquiry or an order |
| Cost per lead | $66.69 | Average spend for one enquiry |
Averages are a starting point, not a forecast. Your own numbers after the first two or three weeks matter more than any benchmark, and the purpose of a first campaign is to learn them quickly without spending more than you can afford to lose.
What does a monthly budget buy at average rates?
The table applies the 2026 averages to three common budgets. Real results move with your niche and your page, but the arithmetic shows why a very small budget rarely produces enough data to judge a campaign.
| Monthly budget | Clicks at $5.42 | Enquiries at 8.18% | Cost per enquiry |
|---|---|---|---|
| $500 | 92 | 7–8 | About $66 |
| $1,000 | 184 | 15 | About $66 |
| $3,000 | 553 | 45 | About $66 |
The cost per enquiry stays the same in the table because it uses averages; in real life it falls as the campaign learns which queries, ads and pages work, and rises when you push into more expensive, more competitive searches.
How much would your ads bring at your own numbers?
Move the sliders to your budget and your expected rates. The defaults are the 2026 averages; replace them with your own figures as soon as you have them.

An estimate from your inputs, not a forecast: real clicks and conversions depend on the niche, the ads, the page and the season.
If the cost per client is higher than what a client brings you over time, do not raise the budget: fix the page, the offer or the targeting first. More money multiplies a working campaign and a broken one alike.
What does it cost to have someone run your ads?
Two costs sit on top of the ad budget: setting the campaigns up and running them. Setup means the account structure, keywords and exclusions, ads, conversion tracking and a first test plan. Running them means weekly work on bids, search terms, ads and the page. Agencies usually charge for running either as a monthly fee or as a share of the ad spend, so ask which model a quote uses before comparing totals.
- Setup at VITON13: $33 AI-assisted or $53 human-led, 2–3 working days.
- Conversion tracking and a dashboard, if you need them apart: $33 AI-assisted or $53 human-led.
- Monthly management is a separate package, priced on its own page.
- The ad budget itself is paid to Google, never through us.
Why do the landing page and tracking matter as much as the budget?
The same clicks produce twice as many enquiries on a page that converts at 8% as on one that converts at 4%. Unbounce’s study of more than 41,000 landing pages puts the median at 6.6%, and the spread around it is wide. Before adding budget, send ads to a page built for that one offer, with the button visible on a phone and a short form.
Tracking is what turns spending into decisions. Without counting completed forms, calls and orders as conversions, the ad system optimises for clicks, and clicks are not customers. Set up conversion tracking before the first dollar is spent, and check it with a test enquiry.
How should you spend the first month without wasting money?
- Start with a narrow set of high-intent searches, the ones people type when they are ready to buy.
- Add negative keywords from day one: jobs, free, training, and anything you do not sell.
- Limit the area and the hours to where and when you can actually answer enquiries.
- Send each ad group to the page that answers its query, not to the home page.
- Review the real search terms every week and cut what does not convert.
- Judge the campaign after enough data, not after two days, and change one thing at a time.
When should you not run search ads yet?
Search ads work when people already search for what you sell. If nobody searches for your category, social or video advertising will do better. Hold off as well when you cannot answer enquiries quickly, when the landing page is not ready, or when one client is worth less than the likely cost of getting them: the calculator above shows that last point in a minute.
How VITON13 does it
We connect ads to a clear offer, a page built for it and conversions you can count. Setup covers the campaign structure, a test matrix of ads and a conversion dashboard, so the first weeks produce decisions rather than guesses. AI-assisted: AI drafts keyword lists, ad variants and reports, and a specialist directs and approves them. Human-led: a specialist builds everything, with AI assisting. The written scope and price arrive within one working day.

Questions and answers
Is there a minimum budget for Google Ads?
Google sets no minimum; you choose a daily budget. In practice, a budget that buys fewer than a few hundred clicks a month rarely gives enough enquiries to judge what works. The calculator shows how many clicks your budget buys at your cost per click.
How quickly will ads bring enquiries?
Ads can bring the first clicks on the day they are approved. Reliable conclusions take longer: most campaigns need a few weeks of data before you know which searches, ads and pages produce clients and at what cost.
Do I pay for impressions or for clicks?
For search campaigns you usually pay per click; an ad that is shown but not clicked costs nothing. Other formats can be priced per thousand impressions or per conversion, which suits different goals.
Should I run ads myself or hire someone?
If your budget is small and your offer simple, you can start yourself with a narrow campaign and good tracking. Hire help when spend grows, when many products compete for budget or when results stall: a specialist’s hours usually cost less than wasted clicks.
Why is my cost per click higher than average?
Averages mix cheap and expensive industries. Legal, medical and home-service searches cost far more than entertainment or restaurants. Low ad relevance, a slow page or targeting too broad an audience also raise what you pay.
Can you promise a number of leads?
No. Nobody controls the auction, competitors or your market, so an honest setup comes with a test plan and clear tracking, not a promised figure. The calculator helps you judge what a result would be worth before you spend.
