VK community and Telegram channel design: what to make, which sizes and what it costs

A VK community needs an avatar, cover, name, description, short address and a pinned post; a Telegram channel needs an avatar, name, description and link. The VK cover is at least 960×384 pixels, ideally 1920×768. On FL.ru a freelancer lists a community cover, avatar and menu set at 2,990 roubles; VITON13's template system starts from $73.

What does VK community and Telegram channel design include?

“VK group” is the everyday phrase. VK itself now says “community”, and the design is everything a person sees before reading a single post: the picture, name, description, address and buttons. People decide whether to subscribe from these elements, so build them before the first publication.

Design elements: what exists on VK and on Telegram

The last row is what turns design into a system. You draw an avatar and a cover once, but post templates are used every week, and that is where people most often ask for help.

Which sizes does a VK community need?

Sizes change, so each figure below carries its source and date. Check VK help and the upload window first: the window shows whether the service accepted your file.

StoriesVertical, at least 720×1280; video up to 15 seconds and 10 MBVK for Business, 6 April 2018
The 2018 article is older than the help page: it calls the cover 1590×530, while VK now recommends 1920×768. Check old figures against the upload window.

The main rule from VK's 2025 blog post: on a phone the cover edges are cropped and the avatar hides part of the image. Keep the name, the offer and the logo nearer the centre. Buttons for the site, messages and purchases usually sit under the cover, so the call to action on the picture should not repeat them in small type.

What can you set up on a Telegram channel?

Telegram has fewer pictures and more text. The owner changes the name, the profile picture and the link; a public channel gets a username and a t.me address, a private one an invite link. A channel can have any number of subscribers, and you can attach a discussion chat so that every post shows a comment button.

What Telegram's documentation says about channel settings
SettingWhat it saysSource

Description0 to 255 charactersTelegram Bot API, accessed 2026-11-04
Profile pictureNo size, format or weight is listedTelegram Bot API, accessed 2026-11-04
UsernameLetters a–z, digits and underscores; first come, first servedTelegram FAQ, accessed 2026-11-04
Profile colour, status, backgroundUnlock when the channel reaches the needed boost levelTelegram API, accessed 2026-11-04
Telegram passes the exact boost numbers to the app separately and does not fix them in the documentation, so none are quoted here.

Since no picture size is set, use a square file with room to spare in resolution and keep the logo in the centre: Telegram shows it small, in the chat list. Check the result on a phone, not only on a computer screen.

What should the name, description and address say?

The name should say what this is and for whom, not repeat a slogan. VK allows 48 characters for a name and Telegram up to 128, but the chat list shows only part of it, so put the key word first.

  • A Telegram description is up to 255 characters: fit in what you publish, for whom and how to reach you.
  • A VK description is up to 2,000 characters: a short line on top, then terms, address and hours below.
  • Address: make the VK short address and the Telegram username the same, so people find you under one name.
  • A VK cover works like an advertisement: name, offer, logo and a call to action. VK's blog advises against crowding it with small elements and fonts.

After changing the text, check it on a phone: line breaks and cropping differ from a computer screen.

How do you design a community and a channel yourself, step by step?

  1. Gather the materialsA logo as a vector or a large PNG, two or three brand colours, one typeface and photos you may use. If there is no logo, start there: without a mark the avatar turns out random.
  2. Make the avatarA square file, at least 400×400 for VK. One symbol or two letters on a plain background read at 200×200 better than a whole inscription.
  3. Draw the coverA 1920×768 canvas. Name, offer and logo in the middle; leave margins at the sides and bottom. Save as PNG or JPG.
  4. Fill in the textsName, description, short address, contacts. On Telegram stay within 255 characters of description and test the t.me link.
  5. Set up buttons and the pinned postOn VK that is the button under the cover and a pinned post with your main offer. On Telegram, a pinned post and a discussion chat if you want comments.
  6. Check on a phoneOpen both addresses on a phone and a computer, press every button and follow every link. Only then publish the first post.

What does VK and Telegram design cost?

There is no price list with firm “average” prices, but a freelancer catalogue shows the lower end. We opened FL.ru pages on 4 November 2026: these are individual cards, not the whole market, so read them as a rough guide.

FL.ru service cards, prices on 4 November 2026
CardPriceTime
Design of a VK community: covers, avatar and 3 menu images2,990 roublesnot stated
Social media design: cover, avatar, posts and stories2,990 roublesnot stated
Telegram channel turnkey: design, rubrics and scheduled publishing4,550 roubles5 days
Telegram turnkey: channel, chat and a bot with menu, requests and mailings6,999 roubles7 days
FL.ru service catalogues, accessed 2026-11-04. Prices inside freelancer profiles on FL.ru are hidden from ordinary clients. The Telegram cards are the first page of 61.

The VK and Telegram services in the table are pictures and set-up. Templates for future posts are usually not in such prices: you need them if you will publish steadily. That is separate work, and for it VITON13 has a template system from $73, one-off, in 3–6 working days. A logo, if you have none, is a separate package from $53.

When should you do it yourself and when order?

Yourself or ordering, by situation
SituationSensible choiceWhy
One channel, posts will be rareYourselfAn avatar, a cover and a couple of texts take an evening with the steps above
You have a logo and brand colours but no timeA freelancer for avatar, cover and menuThe job is limited and costs roughly what the cards in the table show

Several channels and posts every weekA template system and rulesTemplates and rules save time on every later post
You need replies to subscribers and publishingManagement, not designDesign is a one-off job, management is monthly
These suggestions come from our experience and are not industry statistics.

If unsure, start with the do-it-yourself version above and order an improvement once you see what is awkward. Design can be redone; subscribers stay.

Which mistakes are worth checking before launch?

  • A file below the minimum: a cover under 960×384 is stretched and turns blurry.
  • The key content at the edge of the cover: on a phone the avatar covers it or the frame crops it.
  • Many small inscriptions: VK's blog advises avoiding many small elements and fonts.
  • Broken buttons and links: test each one on a phone.
  • Outdated information on the cover: the offer has ended and the banner still hangs.
  • Different names on VK and Telegram: people find it harder to see that it is one brand.

How VITON13 builds a social media design system

We build a system, not monthly posts: research, visual direction, production and handoff. The result is content art direction, a template family and written rules. A community avatar, cover or menu is not named separately on the service page, so list them in the brief and they enter the written scope; if they are out of scope we will say so. You receive the written scope and price within one working day of the brief.

There is no published community design case yet

VITON13 has no published case of a VK community or Telegram channel design with client figures, so there are no invented results here. The sizes above come from VK and Telegram documentation and the prices from the FL.ru catalogue; this is reference material, not our result.

What this does not prove

  • The FL.ru prices are single cards; they do not show a market average or the quality of the work.
  • VK sizes and Telegram limits change; check them in the upload window before launch.
  • Good design does not bring subscribers by itself: you also need posts, the address shown elsewhere and advertising.

Questions and answers

What size should a VK community cover be?

According to VK help, the cover is accepted as PNG or JPG; the minimum is 960×384 pixels and the recommended size is 1920×768. A live cover in the app needs vertical files of 1080×1920. Keep what matters near the centre, because phones crop the edges.

What avatar size does a VK community need?

VK for Business, in a 2018 article, lists a 200×200 thumbnail and a full avatar of at least 400×400. The article is old, so check the figures in the upload window. A square with room to spare and the mark in the centre is the safe choice.

What size should a Telegram channel avatar be?

Telegram's documentation does not state a size, format or weight for the profile picture. Use a square file with room in resolution and keep the logo centred, since the picture is small in the chat list. Check the result on a phone.

How many characters fit in a Telegram channel and VK community description?

On Telegram the description is up to 255 characters and the name 1 to 128, per the Bot API documentation. On VK, per a 2022 VK article, the name is up to 48 and the description up to 2,000. Check the figures in your settings.

How much does it cost to order VK community design?

On 4 November 2026 the FL.ru catalogue had a card for covers, an avatar and 3 menu images at 2,990 roubles. That is the low end from one card, not an average. At VITON13 a template system starts from $73, one-off.

Can a VK community and a Telegram channel share one style?

Yes, and it is easier that way. You need shared colours, typeface, mark and post rules, and the sizes are fitted to each platform. A VK cover is wide, a Telegram picture is small and square, so one file will not serve both.
